Hi there. Welcome to my portfolio, I’m Carl Jones, a digital media professional, from Shrewsbury. I see you’ve found my portfolio of work I’ve done or been involved in.

A little bit about myself. I am a 21 year old BSC (Hons) Computing Digital Media Student, based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire studying at Wolverhampton University. I have previously studied at Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology gaining a Level 3 Extended Diploma for IT practioners, and also gaining a HND in Applied Information Technology at the same college while studying through Staffordshire University.

Digital Media Professional

So I’m a Digital Media professional, but what does that mean? Throughout my education and work I’ve learnt to develop digital media with several technologies. From technologies such as asp.net and three.js, to building websites using pure HTML, JavaScript, and even using frameworks and Content-Management Systems such as WordPress and Bootstrap, I have had some form of experience. Preferably developing with frameworks or content-managaement systems, most of the sites that I have built are based around WordPress. But it’s not just websites I have built. Over my university studies I’ve built sound and image manipulation webpages capable of altering the subject, whether by adding extra features, effects or manipulating the original content, these applications have been successful in their objective. I’ve also developed a 3D web application using three.js which was designed to be a low level prototype of a real-world example, an example which I based mine around the Building and Architecture trade. I am also learning to improve my skills in the area of digital photography, from experiencing different challenges with landscape, portrait and night-time photography, to event photography and even the occasional wedding, there’s never a moment that I don’t want to try and capture!

My Experience

With 3 years of experience in a professional environment working for Yarrington Ltd, I have learnt from the industry the technologies and skills required to develop for local, national and global companies. Whether this be a web banner or image for an advert, content for a website or physical banners and set graphics for events, I’ve had experience. Please visit my portfolio gallery to see and experience some examples!

  • Helping with creation of sets, audio and visual
  • Helping with the removal and clean up upon finish

Sales Experience

Throughout 5 years of secondary school education I was successful in two sales orientated business challenges. The first of these were undertaken aged 11 where with a partner we decided to sell merchandise to support England’s national team in the 2006 World Cup. The second challenge was done aged 13 for our Business Studies course studied.

Websites Developed

With two years in the industry there has been plenty of opportunities for me to work on and build websites. From content population and testing on sites such as Hawkstone Park Follies and Shropshire Chamber, taking over site builds from others for sites including Stans Superstore and Hawkstone Park Golf, and the complete redesign and rebuild of Wem Carnival, I have worked for high profile clients both locally and nationally.

Voluntary Work

Over the last few years I have volunteered for local, independant organisations, and in the community. Locally I have volunteered to help out with the Shrewsbury Town Official Supporters Club and Wem Carnival Committee, taking on vital roles helping with the everyday running of the groups and organisation of events. In the community I have volunteered on numerous occasions to help out at a local sheltered housing estate with fun days including the summer fete.

Charity Fundraising

In the last few years I have raised, as part of a team and individually £738 for national charities including Severn Hospice, Royal Shrewsbury Hospital Children’s Ward and St Lukes Hospice, Cheshire
